“Eat…”

The voice in her head yanked her out of sleep in a cold sweat only to find the mist that surrounded her form when she became her monster now hovered over the bed.

The monster inside her was ravenous, and it would take Chance if it had no other option. On a gasp, she forced it back down. Deep. She needed to feed that side of her. Soon. Maybe she could find someone appropriate to dispatch and be back before Chance woke up?

No, the sun was starting to lighten the sky. She’d have to wait for night.

Not wanting to go back to sleep and risk losing control, Elodie managed to slip out of bed without waking Chance, who in slumber appeared even more angelic. She could see now where the cherub imagery came from. Not that he looked like a little boy. He was all man. But there was something sweet about him when he was relaxed this way.

Quickly, she dressed and went into the living room where she dug her phone out of her purse. A message notification caught her eye and she checked to find a note from Delilah.
